Add a Medication

Select the " + " Add New button. Next select a drug from the ePocrates(TM) Rx reference.

Search by Favorites, Drug Class or Drug Name.

Using the search text box will change the search mode to search by Name.

Lookup by partial spelling, the list will narrow based on keystrokes.

Select the Detail button (see arrow above) to view the drug monograph. Select the Save or Cancel button when you are ready to return to the drug entry form.

Once the detail button is selected for a drug listed, the monograph can be viewed.

Tapping the "Pediatrics" link will scroll down to the pediatric dosing information.

Select the required items in the list. Once a drug is selected the Strength menu will be auto-populated.

Drug strength choices for a particular drug will be listed in the Strength menu. The default units and route will also be preset.

Once the form is complete, the user can create a prescription by selecting the prescription item at the bottom of the list.

The user can also quick link back to the specific drug mongraph from this screen, by tapping "Rx Form" title bar.

The prescription form requires a few items to complete.

The Fill number is auto calculated in most cases, if a frequency and duration is provided. Selecting a pharmacy is discussed below. The user can also keep a signature on file, required for eScripts, by tapping the 'Signed' item and entering their signature.

If the patient has a complete zip code in their patient demographic section (see adding a patient) the list will be narrowed. Otherwise an alphanumeric list will be displayed. Tapping the green plus button will allow the user to append a new pharmacy to the list.

The selected pharmacy will be displayed.

Select Print to mark the script to be uploaded for printing, select Call to have the iPhone dial the pharmacy selected. Select eScript to mark the script to be uploaded and transferred to the selected pharmacy electronically (requires upgrade to ePrescribing service).
Uploading is accomplished via Sync to iChart Sync, to check on the status of an eScript or print a script, login to iChart Sync and select the prescription in the list, then select View/Print.
